ASID 2026 CONFERENCE

The 2026 ASID conference brings together a wide range of people interested in furthering the rights and improving the quality of life of people with intellectual disabilities. They include, researchers, advocates, policymakers, service providers, families and self-advocates with intellectual disabilities.

Over two days it will be a place to share new research, discuss ideas and hear about new service and policy developments.

How to register for ASID 2026

Complete the online form

Step 1: Choose if you are buying 1 ticket or a group of tickets

Step 2: Fill in your details (your name, email, etc.). Make sure all information is correct

Step 3: Select your membership type. You’ll need to tell us if you are an ASID member or not.

Step 4: Choose Your Registration Type (full registration, day registration, student registration, concession registration or support person registration)

Step 5: Tell us if you will attend the networking function on Monday, 19 October.

Step 6: Tell us if you will attend the workshop on Wednesday, 21 October (Optional)

Step 7: Book accommodation if you want to. You can skip this step if you are going to make your own arrangements

Step 8: Pay the registration fee. You can pay by credit card or by bank transfer

Step 9: Check your email. When you’ve completed the form you’ll receive an email with all the details.

Things to remember when you register:

• If you are a student and want a student ticket, you’ll need to tell us your univeristy or school name
• If you are a concession card holder and want to get a concession ticket at a cheaper price, you’ll need to tell us which concession card you have
• Payment methods accepted are credit cards or EFT transfers.
• If you choose to pay via EFT, payment details are located on the tax invoice you’ll be emailed.
• You must pay for your ticket at least 14 days prior to conference. If you don’t pay by the cutoff date, your ticket may be cancelled.

This workshop explores how CEOs and senior executives of disability service providers can lead for quality and safe practice. Focusing on those providers with a substantial clientele of adults with intellectual disabilities, it is especially tailored to those organisations providing supported accommodation services.

Good quality services, and safe services, are – of course – two sides of the same coin.

The first part of the workshop, led by Professor Christine Bigby, will focus on leadership and  capacity for quality support:

• Understanding evidence-based practice about promoting quality of life for the people you support
• How to lead for quality and safety
• Understanding culture in group homes
• Organisational practices to embed quality support, and
• Risks inherent in poor quality practice and leadership.

The second part of the workshop, led by Dr Alan Hough, will focus on learning from legal cases about risks turning into actual harm to people supported and workers. Using case studies, we will identify lessons for leaders about practice and build a framework of risk and risk mitigation strategies.

In keeping with the audience, this workshop will be highly interactive, using small group work to explore the issues.

CEOs and senior executives of disability service providers which, have a substantial clientele of adults with intellectual disability.
